What’s up APX FAM! We’re back and better than ever! Today coming at you is a progress post! My guy Mark and I have been working together from the very beginning! Since when I first became a trainer at my old gym! He was my very first client ever! Now he’s my first client w @apxfitness_ ! Since I’ve decided to start my own private business, We’ve been working together since June of 2020. Recently, I was able to invest into a smart scale by @renphogroup ! So we’ve been officially tracking progress for a month (August-September 2020 ). Since then as you can see in the video, Mark has made major jumps! Since mid July my head and my heart have not been focusing on my weight loss. The Covid situation together with having to go in for surgery, really threw me off my game. Since then I have been dipping my toe in and out but I have not fully committed to getting back on it until today. I have really miss being part of a community and I really underestimated the benefits of using social media to keep myself accountable for my actions and to encourage me to keep on going, even when things get tough. I’ve missed all the inspirational posts and fantastic ideas of others and I am now ready to try again. Whilst I am disappointed that I fell off the wagon so to speak, I’m excepting that this is all part of my journey and I’m trying to focus on the positives and not beat myself up. I keep reminding myself is that I am not giving up, the fact that I’m picking myself up is testament that I want to continue with myself improvement. So I think the key lesson is, it doesn’t matter how many times we may need to start a fresh, or to draw a line under things, so longs as we just keep going. I first bought these leggings 2 years ago. I hated how they looked because they gave me a muffin top and squeezed too much. On a whim, I tried them on yesterday, and lo and behold, they fit the best they ever have. That, is a non-scale victory! When I first started my weight loss journey, I didn't even know what a non-scale victory was. I was focused on getting those numbers to go down because that means you lost weight, right? Well, yes. But weight doesn't necessarily dictate size. Look at John Cena, I'm sure if you were to apply his measurements to a body mass index chart, he would likely be obese or close to it. But I don't think it takes someone with a doctorate to clearly see that John Cena isn't obese. Muscle weighs more than fat, so when you have that much muscle, you may be heavier. I remember when I used to run track. I weighed the most that I ever had, but I dropped 2 pants sizes. My doctor brought it up at my physical that year. He was very clearly overweight so I have no idea if he was just being mean, or ignorant, or they teach them in med school that the BMI chart is the holy grail. But anyways, I digress; I think this way of thinking, even by healthcare professionals, is poisonous to our minds and bodies. Especially during our formative years. I was 13 years old when he brought that up. It only led me to starve myself and I became even more depressed. Let's stop that shit. Let's talk more about how your clothes are fitting. How confident you feel. If you're physically able to do something you couldn't before. Those are what really matter. Full Recipe! SAVE THIS POST! ORIENTAL EDAMAME SALAD 8-1/4 cup Servings INGREDIENTS 1 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce 2 tsp seasoned rice vinegar 2 tsp sesame oil 1 tsp Truvia or Swerve granular 2 Tbsp chopped cilantro 1 tsp minced garlic 1/4 cup silvered almonds, toasted 160z bag of frozen shelled edamame, thawed 1 4oz can of hearts of palm, drained and chopped 2 stalks green onions 1/4 cup sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped 1/4 cup peeled, chopped radishes DIRECTIONS 1. Combine soy sauce THROUGH garlic in small bowl and whisk well to combine. 2. Heat small non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add almonds, stirring frequently until lightly toasted, 2-3 minutes. 3. In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients. 4. Pour dressing mixture over salad, add almonds, and toss well to coat. 5. Without weighing and tracking everything you eat, how do you know that you are eating the right amount of food for what your body needs, and in order to help you maintain or even lose weight?? Some people absolutely hate the thought of having to track their food and log by the gram what they are eating. They find it time consuming and an absolute faff! Most of the time people will say that they ‘don’t have time’ to do it that way. So, how do you know how much you are eating in order to know if you are in a calorie deficit or not?? I am someone who does like to track my food and have found myself a good routine and discipline around it. However, there is another method you can use to help you keep yourself on track with what you are eating without the faff of always using the scales… hand system portion control. Your hand is always there with you and the size of it is proportionate to your body. It is the perfect accessory for measuring food and nutrients. Step 1: Protein = meat, fish, eggs, dairy or beans Step 2: Vegetables = broccoli, carrots, spinach, salad etc Step 3: Carbohydrates = rice, potato, pasta, quinoa, and fruits Step 4: Fats = oils, butters, nuts, seeds and avocado This system is not as accurate as counting calories but it is an easier process and helps you get started in your journey towards weight loss. Remember, just like when you are counting calories and tracking, you need to pay attention to your results and maybe adjust accordingly. Stop listening to the pill pushers. You don’t ALWAYS have to listen to their advice. You can see a Naturopathic Doctor, an Herbalist, an Acupuncturist, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (like myself ). You can see a holistic professional. There are many different ones out there to choose from. Someone who will consider you as a whole being; body, mind, spirit, and emotions - in the quest for health and wellness. Now don’t get me wrong, I always have a family doctor who I can turn to, if needed. And I do understand there are situations in which you do need to take some form of pills, and that depends on you and what’s going on for you. But it is so important to get another approach, another perspective. The holistic approach is preventative, it digs down to the root causes of your symptoms and/or illnesses. It doesn’t just hand you a pill to suppress those symptoms. It hands you dietary advice, nutritional advice, lifestyle advice, etc. Our bodies weren’t meant to be taking in as many chemicals as we are today. It’s time to let nature heal us!
