Last weekend I put on a Strongman Competition for my team CLE OCR! We wanted to compete in something since everything has been canceled. Every Sunday I host an OCR race workout down in the metroparks, so this was Something different and fun to do. . My favorite events were the TRUCK DRAG and the ATLAS STONE Lifts! 2 unique events that require a tremendous amount of strength and grit. For the Atlas stones you had to pick up a 72, 92, 115, 140, and 175 pound stone and drop it over a rope that was 36” high. . Only 3 of us made it all the way through and completed all 5 lifts. Best part was it was 2 of my best friends @ssgackerrecruiting and @davedom1980 and we all finished less than .55 seconds of each other! Now THAT is what I call solid competition!!! . ARE YOU RIGID OR FLEXIBLE WITH TRAINING?!💃🏻 . Run training is such an ART.👩🏻‍🎨And I think that aspect can be lost in the “how bad do you want it?!” Mentality that says- PUSH THROUGH, if you want it bad enough— no excuses, come hell or high water— you’ll drag your injured body there. HAHA. That’s NOT what we want to do.🙅🏻‍♀️ . 👉🏽To get the MOST out of ourselves requires both a rigidity & flexibility in training. But figuring out where to be rigid & flexible is key. . We need to be rigid with staying committed to our goals. It’s SO easy to get discouraged, sidetracked, distracted, and give up along the way. Discouragement can be our biggest saboteur in reaching our goals. So when discouragement comes in looking to sabotage, we have to be rigid- that’s when we say— this goal is MEANT for me & stay committed to the journey to get there. . But with most other things in training- we NEED the flexibility— to survive & sustain the journey — to work with our bodies & get the most out of it. Shoving a pre-made schedule on our body IS NOT the way to make it thrive. How we thrive is by LISTENING to our body and what it is saying— and to work with what is happening with it (i.e. a weakness pops up- being flexible to take time off or to work on strength in that area ). . FLEXIBILITY SAYSSSS— . 👉🏽If something is injured— being ok with missing a workout or long run & taking an extra rest day. . 👉🏽If you’re not seeing progress, to consider a different approach to shake things up. . 👉🏽If you’re feeling off & unmotivated to be willing to change when you’re doing to get back to 100% with mental motivation. . 💃🏻Newer runners have a harder time with the flexibility aspect of training & don’t know when it’s appropriate to enlist some flexibility. You should NEVER EVER feel guilty if you take a day or two down for injury or fatigue. NEVER. You’re doing the right thing. Listening to your body is the MOST important thing you can do to make forward progress. And the sooner you can learn to listen to your body & adapt to what it needs, the sooner you’ll make the progress you want. Promise. . 🗣How rigid/flexible are you during training?
