🤔What is considered a safe sleep surface?🤔 This can be really confusing, especially for new parents who have so many new things to learn and research. So I want to make this as easy as possible on you! 👶A product is considered SAFE for sleeping if it is labeled as a Bassinet, Playard, or Crib. This label needs to be in the manual or listed on the products actual website. Unfortunately, you can't look at Amazon descriptions or titles to determine this. 👶These three products are the ONLY ones that have passed specific safety standards making them safe for sleep. It's also why products that have not passed these safety standards are not legally allowed to label them as bassinets, cribs, or playards. 👶Words to be on the lookout for when spotting unsafe sleep products are: Nests, Co-sleepers, Swings, Sleepers, etc. These are places that you might place your baby while awake and supervised, but should not be used for sleep, even supervised sleeping. There was a reason I didn’t become a teacher...my face says it all. Sitting here navigating my 1st grader through her zoom so she stays focused. While helping my 4th grader write a paragraph on being a scientist. While strictly telling my middle schooler she needs to be doing her assignments in between her zooms so they don’t pile up. While fighting with my 3rd grader to eat breakfast before her zoom starts. This is hard. I’m tired. I’m frustrated. I have no patience. My kids need me though. So I’m battling this feeling of needing to be here helping and teaching them, like a good momma should. And then fighting the strong feeling of praying like Jenny did in Forest Gump- “Dear God, make me a bird so I can fly far, far far away”. Hey guys, I have some news. Obviously nothing I’m super thrilled about, but still news and You can watch my stories for the jist of it. I’m really tired, busy with school, overwhelmed, overworked (by my actual job ), not making enough time for God and feeling like I need to take a break. Motherhood is beautiful and I love it so much, but it’s also demanding. Being a wife is also beautiful and I love it more than anything, but again a role I take very seriously (can also be demanding🤪 ) all this to say my relationship with God and the well being of myself and my family comes first. I will talk more about this as the month goes on, but there will be some changes here @still_a_good_mom 😬. Some sad, some good, but definitely all worth it to make things better. Raising a family is hard and I’ve always wanted to be the mom friend to tell you it’s so worth it, even through every struggle. Do you have a crib stander? It can be super frustrating to look on the baby monitor and see your child standing in their crib instead of laying down and sleeping. 🌃Here are some tips to help you deal with your little crib stander: ⭕If your child has just learned to pull themselves up to standing, but they don't yet know how to sit down on their own... ➡️Practice a LOT during the day ➡️When they are in their crib, guide them into a sitting position rather than just picking them up and laying them down yourself ➡️Don't over-help. Give them some space to learn and practice in their crib. ⭕If your child is capable of laying back down themselves... ➡️Avoid running in. It can quickly turn into a game. ➡️Leave them be and they will lay down eventually when they are ready. Try not to start any new bad habits in the meantime. ➡️Sometimes, by setting them in their crib in a standing position, it takes away their desire to pop back up. I remember when sleep was merely a wish. Since the day my son was born, sleep left me. In the beginning, I couldn’t sleep because I was chronically worried that SIDS would sneak in. I was a young, single momma and let him sleep next to me so I could make sure to check on him regularly. One night, I had a daunting dream, yet I didn’t know it was a dream. I woke up (or so I thought ) and did my routine check on him. When I checked on him, he wasn’t moving & I thought he wasn’t breathing. I picked him up & started shaking him, yelling for him to wake up. A few moments later, I woke up and he was in my arms, safe & alive. Time passed, he got older, and I trusted he was going to wake up every morning. But even with this reassurance, sleep never came back to me. I was 1000% exhausted, all the time. Fell asleep driving. Fell asleep sitting on the couch. Fell asleep after I woke up and had my coffee. You get the idea. I lived chronically tired for years. After several nights of poor sleep, I’d pick my poison. Do I want Benadryl? Melatonin? Magnesium? Valerian Root? NyQuil? It was a never ending cycle. When I decided to give plexus a chance, I had NO IDEA it would return sleep to me. I signed up because I just wanted a good, quality probiotic. After starting, I remember seeing others brag about their sleep improving & prayed it would be me. One month, nothing. Two months, nope. Three months, well, you get the point. I was envious of these people. I decided sleep wasn’t in the cards for me. I saw a huge improvement in other symptoms, but sleep continued to tease me. Then, it happened. One morning, I woke up & thought I was dreaming. Did I actually sleep through the night last night? After several days of sleeping in a row (month 4.5 ) I literally rejoiced!! Last week, I ran my best time yet, but I had a slight injury/irritation and didn’t want to push it. My calves get REALLY tense, and if I’m not careful, don’t roll them out or stretch them enough, it can cause discomfort for days. 😬 • • So I took it easy walking for the rest of the week, and it was perfect timing because last week was also my first week back to school since 2009! 😬 It felt good to just walk for the sake of getting some fresh air and exercise instead of trying to push for goals in the midst of the stress of getting acclimated to college life once again! • • But I got back to it this morning! I was going to attempt it yesterday, but I had a lot of reading to do to prep for my first test (which I nailed, woot! 🙌🏼 ), and my ankle was a bit tender when I got home from work, so I figured I would let it rest one more day. • • While this run was nowhere near as amazing as the last one, I ran the first half mile uphill, and eased off the last half mile because I could feel my calf tightening and didn’t want to stop, but more importantly, didn’t want to cause an injury. HOWEVER, I still smashed the PT goal for my age/gender category, so I’m totally happy with this after taking over a week off. • • I should have also done a separate post for this, but It’s been a crazy week.... but I totally beat my August miles goal, despite taking it super easy the last week! I had aimed for 125.5, since that was my challenge race goal, and I ended up at 127+ tracked workout miles! I can’t wait until that medal gets here, and I have already moved onto the next one, which I plan to finish in the next couple of weeks! #givemeallthemedals #yesfitchallenges #fitby40 #runnersofinstagram #tiredmother #run #motherrunner

Is your baby waking for hunger or comfort? ~ We never want to NOT feed a hungry baby. But there are times baby can be waking and using the feed to comfort to help them go back to sleep. It most often occurs when it's the way baby was initially put to sleep and naturally becomes a sleep comfort. As long as this suits you and your baby it is NOT A PROBLEM. As I always say it is only problem when it no longer suits you both! I'm as guilty as the next mother of not asking for help when I need it. Normally I plough on regardless until the inevitable moment I have a mental and/or physical crash. But now, at almost 36 weeks pregnant, I'm finally having to accept the stubborn mule approach needs to be adapted, for my health and that of my unborn child. The truth is, the combination of late stage pregnancy, house renovation, toddler care and dissertation writing is taking its toll. Today's onslaught of dust and building works finally tipped me over the edge and so I reached out for help and managed to get me and my son out of the house to somewhere we could spend a couple of glorious dust-free hours. I've even lucked out and managed 20 mins lying on the sofa while my son's been taken on a walk (seriously winning! ) The moral of the story is this: If you're struggling, don't be afraid to ask for help. How deeply can your body need rest? How long will it ask before you heed the call? For most mothers if will take longer than we should allow. But our love for them and their needs always come first. But we also are so conditioned to believe that prioritising ourselves and our needs makes us selfish or we feel guilty. We accept fatigue and burn out as a customary part of motherhood. But what would motherhood look like for all of us, if we didn’t reach the stage where our bodies are depleted and our spirits broken? I’m not talking the fatigue that is cured with a nap and the afternoon off. I’m referencing the deep seated fatigue and overwhelm. The years of pushing needs aside and pushing through your body’s call for rest, health care and acknowledgement. Our best years of motherhood are being wasted away as some of us stare blankly waiting for the emotional and physical fatigue to end. And we do keep waiting, until our bodies can’t wait any longer. Mothers are facing mental illness, serious hormone issues, thyroid dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, insomnia, high stress and many other physical complications of motherhoods burn out. For every motherh out there battling any of the above, I see you. I know this is hard and it feels almost insurmountable and tiring beyond words. I know you wish all the things you do for yourself would finally work... but understand it’s much deeper than a nap and a massage. Deep rest needs to be your ritual. Listening to your body must come first. Seeking a network of health heroes to guide you is a must. Take a deep breath. You are worthy of feeling better. You do deserve to be cared for as well. Sometimes when I post motivational quotes I feel disingenuous. Why? Because in this crazy Insta world they give out the signal that I have my shit together. Which as a coach I may do, but often as a mother I don't. Or at least I don't always feel like I do. So as a follow up to this morning's post, here's today's reality. Stripped walls (so many stripped walls ), toddler watching too much TV (how do parents whose children watch no TV actually cope with life??? ), and - just out of shot - an exhausted heavily pregnant mama who has hit a metaphorical and physical wall and whose husband has had to take the toddler to bed screaming his head off because she simply doesn't have the energy for bed time tonight (oh the guilt ). Mówili: na urlopie wypoczniesz… Pusty śmiech mnie ogarnia, bo nie dodali, że pod żadnym pozorem nie mogę zabrać na ten urlop dzieci!!! Na szczęście tym razem po wakacjach jestem tylko trochę bardziej zmęczona niż przed nimi. Bo wprawdzie pakowaliśmy i rozpakowywaliśmy się aż 8 razy (trzy lokalizacje w 12 dni… ), ale jakoś tym razem poszło łatwiej. Przy kominku ratowaliśmy się Internetem od T-Mobile, który testowaliśmy w trudnym terenie – na mazurskiej dziczy i jest tak samo szybki jak w mieście. On an adventure to find some dinosaurs 🦖 and this little Dino got hungry so we pulled over for lunch! Lucky that my trunk is big enough to comfortably breastfeed in if needed! 😋I wonder how long I’ll be able to breastfeed Thomas for, I was able to breastfeed James almost 2 years to the day.
