Incline dumbbell curl, primary muscle - biceps. Video shows two angles. This is a good exercise to isolate the bicep muscle, it prevents shoulder jerking often seen when doing traditional bicep curls. Starting on an incline bench, sit with your back flat on the bench. Keep your back straight and abdominal muscles tight. Lift each dumbbell, palms up, towards your shoulders. Slowly lower the dumbbell to the starting position. Not all transformations are physical! . 14 years ago I graduated from University, I thought I had my life mapped out. At 21 I thought I knew it all, what I wanted from life and where I was going. I had my career mapped out and was engaged to be married. . Sometimes I look back at the person I was and think how naive I was back then, but I also look at her and think how brave she was for knowing what she wanted from life and heading after it. . Life did not follow the path I had mapped out. Not in the slightest. I went off road, took wrong turnings, crashed and burned a few times. Life threw everything it could at me to stop me going the way I thought I wanted. . 14 years ago, I thought I would be in a successful photography career, I didn't want children and I had dreams of travelling to as many different countries as I could. Instead, life gave me 3 beautiful children and a home that made me not want to leave to see the world, my world was right there with me. The whole experience of having my family and all the complications that went with my pregnancies and gaining weight is what drove me onto the new path. The path that started my fitness journey and love of weightlifting. The path that ultimately lead me to a career I LOVE and enjoy. . So after all that waffle, I guess the moral to my story is... You don't always get what you think you want, because there is better out there for you. . Do you want to gain muscle mass & strength more effectively? Implement deload weeks into your training regime 💁🏻‍♀️ What is a deload week? It’s exactly what it sounds like - a week of deloading, unwinding and relaxing 🍃 They are planned breaks where you decrease the total training volume for a one-week period 📆 How do you deload? 1. By reducing the load/intensity (and only using around 40-60% of your 1RM ) 2. By reducing the volume (and keeping the weight you use the same, but cutting out the number of sets ) Why is a deload week needed? Pushing too hard for too long with a poor recovery in place can lead to mental burn outs, fatigue, joint pains, messed up CNS (central nervous system ) and little motivation to train. This often results in plateau or even decrease in strength, which then obviously hinders your ability to build muscle & get stronger 🏋🏻‍♀️ When should you deload? It depends on several factors including training style, training level and your goals. But there are a few schools of thought on the frequency in which you could deload: A ) 3 weeks of progressive overload, followed by 1 week of deload week; B ) Every 6 to 8 weeks; C ) Every 12-16 weeks Deloading is a very smart tool to utilise to keep you injury free both physically and mentally. Although it can be boring and feel counter-productive, just trust me when I say it’s vital for your long term progression in the gym. If you spend a lot of time focusing on what you’re doing inside of the gym - take a step back and optimise your recovery 👍🏻

STOP letting the scale number dictate your worth❕ ⁣ I used to beat myself up about the number I’d see on the scales when tracking progression. However, there are SO many factors that can cause the scale weight to fluctuate daily, a few of those being: - water retention💧 - sleep 😴 - muscle gain 💪🏼 - stress levels 🤯 - hormones/TOM 🌚 ⁣ It can be extremely demotivating seeing a number ‘increase’ [or decrease in some cases] when you’re putting in 110% effort in your training, hitting your nutrition goals & even looking/feeling good within yourself.
