Haven’t made a world of progress on this because real life is just an assbag sometimes. I am happy to get back to work on it again. Hopefully I’ll get it done in time! #sewhonestsunday #nothaandthatsok #historicalcostuming #18thcenturycostume #ridinghabit #costumer #historicalsewing

Completed cap! Yes, it stands free on its own, the wire is that rigid. In theory I'm very happy with it... but I think it's about an inch too small for my head. When I have hair pins again and can do my hair properly for it, I'll try again, but at the moment I cannot make it sit right on my head and make it stay. But I am *extremely* proud that I cut, stitched and wired this by hand all in one day! #sewing #historicalsewing #historicaldress #tudor #elizabethan

I finally finished my 18th century inspired dress! I used a modern princess seam bodice that I altered to have a more 18th century neckline. I pleated the skirt similarly to an 18th century petticoat, but I made it knee length and attached it to the bodice at the waistline instead of making them separate pieces. There are a couple fit issues (I probably should have done a small bust adjustment ) but overall I’m really happy with how it turned out!

1000 followers!!!! 😍😍😍😍Thank you all so so much. Through instagram I have found incredible community of costumers and history nerds who are so supporting and so amazing! My sewing skills have improved so much during past two years which is unbelievebly rewarding. I always want to learn more and next step would figure out how to make historical men’s clothing - specially pants. I have bad memories from making them in school 🤣 . . Anyway thank you all so much! This means me so much more than you can even imagine🥺🥺🥺🖤 Photo of me by @dj .jiri Backround from photo I took of painting during my exchange in Scotland 🖤 . . #historicalsewing #historicalcostuming #historicalfashion #18thcenturyfashion #1780s #1kfollowers #ikeadress #costumecommunity #art #portrait #photography

I decided to change the neckline... Which coused me afditional 3 hours of work but at least I know it's not too high now. Here she is, the American Duchess 1910 cape! Took my cape for a test ride and let me tell you, riding a bike while wearing a cape is a real delight. I made her with two layers of medium-weight 100% wool and fully topstitched for a more crisp look. Super happy with the results! I made the pattern with no modifications other than using ribbon for the closure, and while the fit is imperfect on me, it’s close enough to work. In the coming days I’ll share some more about the make and what I’ll do different next time. Photos by my @jasonfiliatrault #adcapecult #b37w31h41 #historicalsewing #ImNot2D

Day 2 of 5 of #thestripeychallenge - the bodice is somewhat wearable 😅 Flatlining always take more time than I expect. . But I did cut all the pieces for skirt and sleeves, which took about an eternity, so tomorrow they should be stitched to the bodice 🙃 . . . . . . . #1890s #1890sdress #1890sfashion #historicalcorset #costumemaker #costumer #costuming #dressmaker #dressmaking #historicaldress #historicalsewing #historicalsewingtechniques #seamstress #sewingwip #patterning #patternmaking

This isn't my big secret I'm working on, but I wanted to make an Italian gown to completion before I cut up my wool. I rifled through the stash and found the #curtainalong curtains I bought a couple years ago. While I'm late to that sewalong, I still have wanted to make this gown for a long time! If we ever get to go to events again, it'll be great for historical costuming as well. I love this fabric, so much that I'm wondering if I have enough to use for actual curtains 😂🤷 #sewfantastic #comiconprep #secretcosplay #18thcentury #18thcenturycostuming #18thcenturystays #sempstress #sewing #historicalsewing #americanduchess #waverly #italiangown

I’m heading into the gloomy 1840s starting with some petticoats. I have a corded petticoat I purchased on Etsy (yes there are crazy people who make corded petticoats for $ ) Thank you crazy cording people!!! I essentially made a ugly ruffler petticoat using cotton organdy with a Muslim base and then made another petticoat out of lawn. I’m digging the fluffy many petticoat look the ugly ruffler is giving!! On the left is how all 3 petticoats look together. I think once I add my skirt layer it will look nice and full with only 3 petticoats! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 #victorian #fashion #historical #petticoat #sewing #costume #cosplay #makersgonnamake #victoriancostume #historicalsewing #victorianfashion #ruffles #letssewfall2020 #costumemakers #dickens

Before making this spencer I've never sewn with velvet. Because of the fabric some parts of the sewing process were a little challenging (or rather frustrating 😅 ) and you could find green velvety bits everywhere in our flat for weeks, but I'm quite pleased with the result. Today's progress on my Elizabethan coif! The bag is gathered and pinned onto the headband, but I've done *something* to my little finger so am stopping for the night. This is all hand sewn, which I am proud of, though it's strange following instructions in the @thetudortailor book that seem to be written for machine sewing! At the moment I need to hold the side flaps into place - I may try pinning them to my hair when I wear it properly. But the wire was only garden wire so it's not ideally fit for purpose. If anyone has suggestions of places to buy suitable millinery wire, I am all ears! #tudor #elizabethan #tudorcostuming #elizabethancostuming #historicalpractice #historicalcostuming #historicalsewing

I've not felt like sewing any garments these last few weeks so have moved onto quick millinery projects. I've always preferred the earlier versions of the French hood (commonly known as an Anne of Brittany hood ) and I finally got to make one. Still need to decorate the black velvet hood but it's looking good so far. #costuming #tudor #historicalsewing #historichair #frenchhood #costume #16thcenturyfashion #16thcentury

Sharing this again, just because it's pretty. Beautiful petticoats was one thing that made me fall in love with the 19th century, even though they are rarely seen. I need a wrapper with a nicely worked petticoat peeking out in front... 😊 Also, wishing a meaningful fast for those who're observing Yom Kippur. . . #HistoricalClothing #HistoricalCostuming #HistoricalSewing #TuckedPetticoat #1840s #VictorianClothing

Plague Doctor Gown Designed and made by me. In 17th century Europe Plague Doctors would wear a gown made out of either leather or waxed canvas. Some engravings show a hooded gown and some others show a gown with a high collar, which is the one I decided to make. Gowns always reached to the floor and were quite wide. Underneath this they would wear a pair of leather breeches and a short-sleeve shirt. The hem of the breeches was tucked inside a pair of thigh-high leather boots. It was all designed to not leave any exposed skin. #plaguedoctor #plague #bubonicplague #pandemic #costume #costumedesign #costumedesigner #design #designer #horror #art #artist #costumemaking #leathercraft #gown #doctorgown #historicalsewing #historicalcostuming

Well, it's far from my prettiest stitchwork... but I decided a single line of machine stitching holding the panels of my stays together likely wouldn't be enough. In hindsight I should've backstitched them together by hand, but it's a bit late for that now. I'm instead adding some stitches that'll hopefully help to reinforce it... not quite sure if it'll work but I don't think it'll do any harm so it's worth a shot. #historicalcostuming #historicalfashion #historicalsewing #historicaldress #18thcenturyfashion #18thcentury #18thcenturycostume #18thcenturysewing #18thcenturystays #handstitching #wip #workinprogress #costube

1 skirt = 3 outfits or How to transform a mid-victorian dress? . Transforming dresses were a very practical solution for victorian woman: 🔸The owner of such a suit could save the budget and wear it on different ocassions when a change of clothes was required (for example, to make an evening dress out of a day dress ) 🔹Such a set formed a whole set of clothes in the style that the lady liked. 🔸It was a good way to use a wedding dress further in life. Or to renew an old favorite dress without buying a new onr. . Here I have demonstrated how to create day, walking and ball outfits in the same style on the basis of one skirt, only changing bodices and accessories. Which one do you like best? __________ . . . . . . #periodcostume #historicalsewing #1860s #historicalcostuming #costuming #1800s #costumehistory #victorianfashion #victorianstyle #19thcenturyfashion #historicalcostume #costumemaker #fantasydress #shelgiana #corsetdress #gettingdressed #historicalfashion #costumemaking #historicaldress #crinoline #hoopskirt

Hi everyone... here we are with my new weekly post! I was planning to start one of my biggest projects during the last days but I realized that, just as Hogwarts staircases, my schedules like to change... and they like it a lot! So, still moved by your enthusiastic reply, I decided to follow my gut and give my latest Black and Champagne Edwardian corset a romantic and curvier (cm 86-54-96 ) sister, ornated by the same insertion lace mixed with another fragment of antique scalloped bobbin lace I had in my stash (no, not the striking lace I was talking about in my latest post, I'm still looking for that one ). Some of you might recognize this decoration featuring ribbon loops on lace... conversely, to those who have never seen it, I can say it's loosely inspired by a really amazing historical French corset prototype from 1889. Okay, okay, once again I've used an older fashion element on a 1907 corset but it was aesthetically too suitable for not using it... 😅 That's all for now.... let me know what you think about it, though! Wish you all a good weekend... 💕 #corset #corsetry #corsetmaker #corsetmaking #edwardiancorset #antiquepattern #corsetflossing #edwardianfashion #historicalfashion #historicalcostuming #historicalsewing #edwardianundergarments #edwardianunderwear #early20thcenturyfashion #slowfashion #waspwaistmannequin #antiquemannequin #antiquebobbinlace [Please, don’t use my pics or my work without permission or, at least, add proper credits.
