🤔 Can you use coding to demonstrate your math knowledge or vice versa? In our #code4math program this is one of things we strive to achieve! 👩🏽‍💻We coded a program to draw these compound shapes using the knowledge of angles and length. The main coding concepts that came into play were loops and sequencing. This task can also be extended to introduce the concept of functions among kids. 💡A great example of computational thinking and mathematics coming together! #codingwithscratch #scratchprogramming #coding #codingforkids #codinggirls #girlswhocode #stemreadygirls #programming #mathematics #maths #singaporeparents

I just finished reading @melindafrenchgates book, #themomentoflift , where she shares the struggles of women around the world: everything from maternal health, family planning, education, unpaid work, child marriage, as well as inequality for women in agriculture and in the workplace, specially the tech industry. In each chapter, she introduces the story of a woman -or a group of women- striving in their own circumstance; we get to see how being a women is tough in different contexts. Personally, I was aware of the inequalities she talked about, but didn’t fully grasped how they changed a girl’s or woman’s life choices; some passages where hard to read, but they gave me perspective of how difficult it is to be a women, still today. When writing, Melinda is so candid and humble as she takes you through her journey as a public advocate for women empowerment. I appreciate how she is honest about sometimes feeling overwhelmed or being emotional... traits that let you see she is just as human as everybody else. Empowerment starts with getting together. I read this book with a group of friends, the majority women in tech. It was a great opportunity to discuss our experiences, different points of view, and be there for each other, to lift each other.✨ #womenintech #womenempowerment #womeninstem #wit #girlswhocode #momentoflift #bookstagram #bookclub

JWT (pronounced just tokens 🤷🏻‍♀️ ) are pretty cool! It's a public token that is verified with a signature and is therefore secure (mostly ). A common application if JWT is if you use Single Sign On (SSO ) a.k.a the Login with Facebook" button. Which we all use, because why not give Facebook even more of our data at this point (I say as I'm typing an Instagram caption🤦‍♀️😂 ) #girlswhocode #womenwhocode #codinglife #programmergirl #womenintech #dev_girls #womenwhowork #devlife #codelife #programminglife #womeninstem #developerstuff #shecanstem #codingdays #hersuccess #peopleintech #developerspace #hustlinganywhere #peoplewhocode #ilooklikeanengineer #9tothrive #python #javascript #programmer_py #love_coders #workFromHome

Netflix.com start-up to power-up! 🚀 In 1999, Netflix's red🔴 color scheme is not its signature look yet until 2004. And there was an emphasis on "Net" and "Flix" as two separate entities. The name was stylized "NetFlix," and there were things like FlixFinder — what it called its search feature. Between 2008-2012, Netflix introduced the concept of streaming and "happy family"👪 image that would continue to dominate its home page. Currently, Netflix's home page featured on how the users can enjoy watching their favorite shows and movies — anytime and anywhere.🎥 Know more about its transformation here👉 https://bit.ly/2ZYV6cr Follow @FullstackHQ for a daily dose of #design #development upskilling and inspiration!

A visual tip for another confusing concept: false positive vs. false negative! False positive literally means: false-ly labeled as- positive, which actually is a negative. Same goes for false negative. I’m no longer confused with these terms but for a long time always had to remember what each term referred to. Hope this helps, this is important for understanding classification metrics! . . . .

#100daysofcode weekly review featuring a snap of me receiving my first paycheck as a developer!! YAY! 🎉 it’s a little weird to think I’ve never been to the office or even met my new coworkers in person but that’s also the beauty of this industry. Being able to connect and collaborate virtually with people all over the world 🌎 !! Day 40 9/17/20: re-read the chapter on functions to get another refresher on basic function creation; this is a huge part of development and I wanted to make sure it was 100% clear. Day 41 9/18/20: reviewed a recent Laravel application I created and added notes to make sure I understood the code. I think it’s super important to keep your code legible for not only yourself later on but also for future contributors. Day 42 9/20/20: reworked the JavaScript activities at the end of the previous chapter and feel more confident in creating functions that call on other functions without being recursive. Day 43 9/21/20: played around in a SaaS application called WebFlow creating a dummy website. It’s such a cool option for working with CSS, I highly recommend checking it out for yourself if you struggle with regular CSS. Day 44 9/22/20: researched migrations within PHP and best practices. Honestly, this part of development has scared me since it involves preserving previous data and making sure not to erase it all with a single command 😱 so definitely felt good to read up on the topic! Day 45 9/23/20: reviewed better practices on naming classes within WebFlow. This will be super helpful down the line when we need to make changes to styling and especially when we want to reuse components for other parts of the application. Stay tuned for next week’s review 👩🏻‍💻💛🍁• • #webdeveloper #webdevelopment #girlswhocode #womenintech #php #javascript #itsfallyall #fall

"It’s a common notion that technology is a field dominated by men, but the fact is that technology or programming has nothing to do with gender, it is pretty much anyone’s game. Just your daily reminder that while a degree in Computer Science is nice, hands-on work experience and a solid portfolio is just as great. I love computer science, but what many people don't realize is that computer science doesn't teach people how to create and maintain applications within the context of business. It's important to remember that while CS and software engineering are related, you don't need a CS degree to be a brilliant engineer! I've seen so many people with CS degrees begin their first position and stop learning. Shoot for the stars 🌠💫🌟 and don't let anyone try to intimidate you with a fancy piece of paper. All you need is a consistent learning mindset and passion to become the best of the best.

Guess what?! I have a new addition to my setup. @logitech was kind enough to send me this newly launched MX Anywhere 3 Mouse in this beautiful Rose color! 🌸 This mouse is lightweight and so comfortable to hold with the soft silicone side grip. It’s compact, works well with almost every surface, and easy to carry with me everywhere I go. 😍 I’ll post an update on this mouse once I use it for a longer time. So excited to use it. ✨ #MXAnywhere3 #logitech #ad What would you add to your setup? 🤔

Today’s my first day of my Software Engineering course with @generalassembly ! Since being furloughed in Mid-April, I took a lot of time to rest and recharge. Then, I got hungry to start working again and came to the realization that the events industry isn’t going to come back in the way that it used to be (in the way that I love it ) for a long time. So I started exploring. I started playing around with teaching myself some HTML, CSS, and taking an online Computer Science course. I started learning that I liked the challenge and I liked the problem solving. However, I know that I like the accountability of attending a class and keeping my learning on track, so I started researching different courses I could take. Looking General Assembly’s outcomes and talking with the admissions team really felt right. So after the application process and some challenging pre-course work, I’m here!! And I’m excited!! If you are a programmer or know of any, please reach out to me! I am dying to connect with people in this world so I can learn more about it. . . . #girlswhocode #coding #coder #womenintech #womeninstem #techcommunity #tech #softwaredevelopers #softwareengineering

Here's the tea...I don’t have to explain how 2020 has been nothing short of madness. So much has changed including how and where we work. When the pandemic first hit I received so many messages from people seeking advice for applying for roles in tech and considering a career in product management, or tech in general. I know I may be slow at responding at times — again 2020 is madness — but I am here to share what I can. ⠀ One way to make a career shift is by attending virtual career fairs. While not in person, you have an opportunity to engage with companies that you otherwise may not have been able to without traveling. I have met so many fellow women in tech virtually and I can’t wait to see more women techies! Take advantage of this new virtual (and sometimes free ) landscape! ⠀ There is a FREE Women In Tech Virtual Career Event this Thursday, September 24th hosted by @dicedotcom , @efinancialcareers , and @clearancejobs ! This is a great opportunity for those seeking a career change (or curious about what’s out there ) to engage with companies and network all from the comfort of where you want to be! Learn more at the link in my bio! ⠀ Tag women who will be interested in this opportunity! ⠀ #WomenInTechVCE #sponsored #womenintech #careeradvice #angelinax #blogger #blackintech #girlswhocode #blackgirlblogger #techblogger #productmanager #techrecruiting #womeninproduct #virtualcareerfair #productmanager

Over the last couple of years my journey into tech has been anything but traditional. With no previous experience, I entered this field and quickly experienced imposter syndrome, microaggressions, and feelings of being left out as a Black woman in a male dominated field. ⠀ ⠀ Throughout all the pressures and challenges, I was still so inspired by the tech innovation that I was surrounded by each day and found my passion on the path that I am on now. It became important to me that I shared my experiences to help empower others and to represent a demographic of people that are often overlooked and underestimated. As a result, I have found the most amazing, beautiful community that keeps me inspired and found a career that I love! ⠀ ⠀ @lightboxjewelry and the lab-grown diamonds that they create, is such a perfect symbol of this beautiful journey that I have been on. Through technology and innovation they have been able to make something that truly shines. Not to mention it also allows them to play around more with colors, like these pink halos that I am loving! ⠀ #ad #lightboxjewelery #developerjourney #wocinstem #wocintech #womenintech #blackwomenintech #blackwomeninstem #girlswhocode #blackgirlscode

Best Coworker ❤️⁣ ⁣ Common question I get: ⁣ “How do I balance Parenthood & Work”⁣ ⁣ The truth is:⁣ ⁣ (1 ) I don’t sleep much 🛌 ⁣ ⁣ (2 ) Life is a series of phases: There are chunks of time ⏰ where my work 👩🏻‍💻 is my priority & chunks of time where my family 👶 is my priority. The balance ⚖️ doesn’t happen daily but it does happen in “sprints”.⁣ ⁣ For example: if it’s an intense time at work, 💼 my family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 gets less of me —> after that intense work time I make sure to take off 🏝 & spend more time with my family. I can’t say I have it down path as every day brings new challenges. ⁣ ⁣ It’s been a journey to figure out but learning to be adaptable is crucial — plans are hard when you have so many factors in your life that can change your day. ⁣ ⁣ ⭐️ The MAIN lesson I learned is that if I want to be both a mom that is present & progress in my career I need to ⁣ LET GO OF PERFECTION ⁣ ⁣ 👆It’s easier said than done but if you start not being scared of things not being exactly as you envisioned, you will do a lot more & progress faster. ❤️⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #mompreneur #momlife #momsintech #momsinstem #womeninstem #chicgeeks #womenintech #womenwhocode #girlswhocode #momlife #wfhlife #wfhmom #wfhmomlife #momsofinstagram #devlife #webdeveloper #workingmom #workingmomlife
