Elbow lever or the peacock pose as it is aptly called in hatha yoga because of its strong resemblance to a peacock is a good hand balancing exercise. The peacock balances its long neck and extravagant tail feathers on its stout legs which are situated at the centre of its torso, exactly where we place our hands and arms at the navel centre to become the feet.  Also it is unbelievably easy in comparison to how it looks. Due to the horizontal position of the body the centre of gravity is much lower to the ground making it significantly easier than say a handstand where the centre of gravity is higher up.  It develops incredible strength in the stabilising muscles of the shoulders, elbow and wrists. Happy Monday and new week with #Ashtangamondays 🍁 and last Monday in september🍂 This week we take a closer look at karandavasana from intermediate series - or yogis own choice from primary series of ashtanga yoga. Don’t be sad if you feel like you will never will come up from karandavasana… you are not alone, i promise, we are many out there who feels the same… 😅 When i started my karandavasana practice, maaaany years ago, i tried to practice ones ore twice by myself, then when it didn’t happen, the balance and the lotus pose, i went for the headstand into lotus. I was working there for a few attempt until my teacher came up to me and helped me with the full karandavasana, both going down and also up. Benefits: The therapeutic effects of Karandavasana are the same as Pincha Mayurasana, but the lotus pose and the down/up movement deepens the impact of the position. Karandavasana: Opens the back, hips, knees and ankles. Increases the metabolism and speeds digestion. Purifies and strengthens the internal organs and the lower chakras. Strengthens the upper arms and shoulders. Strength the redrawing-nadi, sciatic nerve. Cleans and releases the Asa Hara-chakra, heart chakra.
